The Horse Painters is a children’s book set long ago in the last Ice Age. It opens with Umalik and Aariak, brother and sister, making for a large cave where there are drawings on the walls of bison and deer and other animals too. Many of the pictures are drawn by the girl, Aariak, for she possesses magical powers, because the animals she draws are attracted to the cave, making them easier to hunt.

Meet Julian, the hero of our story, and let him take you on a fun filled ride through one of the toughest issues a child can encounter. Somehow he puts a new spin and unique and positive outlook on an age old, yet current problem that all children endure at some point in their lives.

My five year old daughter recently started enjoying SpongeBob SquarePants on television, so she became very excited when I got this book for her. “Undersea Party” is a book that is accompanied by an electronic voice changer. It’s a little battery powered microphone with SpongeBob on the top and three buttons on the handle. (It did come with a battery) The buttons change your voice to Sponge Bot, Scary Pants, or Bubble Boy. The voices are not labeled on the voice changer, but the book tells you which button is which.

Despite decades of advances in the woman’s movement, there are some who still believe that girls are weaker or less smart than boys of the same age. Children’s author and illustrator MJ Daley-Prado saw a need for a strong, young, female character and Pinky fits the bill. This empowering story is geared for audiences aged 4 to 9 and will also appeal to older children.

The Harry Potter 7th book, the Deathly Hallows is J K Rowlings favorite of the Potter editions. In her words, it was where the story was always leading and the ending she had planned for seventeen years. It all started in 1997 with the first book of Potter magic, the Sorcerers Stone. I cant really remember life before that can you? I just remember it as being pretty boring.

In a world dominated by digital entertainment, books for children must be introduced in the home and in school. Books require minimal money investment but the return on investment are excellent, especially when these are compared to digital entertainment like video games. Indeed, parents and teachers must conspire for the good of their children!

As the title of this book implies, with ingenuity and an obvious love of the sea, Ms. Nolan took some wonderful old standard nursery rhymes and wove them into sea and coastline themed poems. Within these rhymes, Ms. Nolan introduces bits of nautical history and information.

What’s New at the Zoo? takes the reader on an animal adding adventure. This learning zoo adventure begins: “Two hungry pandas eat a bamboo lunch. One cub joins the meal. How many crunch and munch? 2 + 1 = ?” Through delightful rhyming text and numerals Ms. Slade creates a wonderfully engaging learning experience for children. Each page offers a new addition problem.

“The I Believe Bunny” written by Tish Rabe and illustrated by Frank Endersby is part of a new series for young children. Boys and girls will identify with an adorable bunny who teaches them how to put their faith into action. In this book Bunny teaches about the power of prayer.

Often humans get too caught up in the city environment that they’ve created, and while it is true that we have created astounding works of art, architecture and massive infrastructure, we must also realize that there is a lot more too our world that the concrete under our feet. If you have children perhaps you can relate to the need to explain to them about the rest of the world, that which they do not see. They will be intrigued and find a new set of values for their surroundings and curiosity of nature.

The Moon in My Room is the coolest nightlight ever made! Are you or your child afraid of things that go bump in the night? Are you or your child lulled to sleep by the gentle moonlight seeping through your window panes?

I ordered “The Wackiest Wildest Weirdest Animals in the World” by Jack Hanna to read with my five year old daughter, and we have had fun reading it together. The book has a lion on the cover and one of the 30 animals featured is a lion, so that made may daughter especially happy since lions are her favorite animals. She enjoyed the other animals too. After we finished reading the other night, I went into the other room and I heard her yell, “Mommy, come and look at the naked rat.” She was referring to the last animal in the book, the naked mole rat.
